That's pretty cool lol, but when I'm in my labs doing titrations I never use a stir bar I think it's a lot easier to shake it by hand

For me it is so much faster to use the stirrer. I run all the test and wait the time to see the results. My total testing time is no more than 5 to 10 minutes for all tests. I use Red Sea, Salifert and API. Then go rinse and wait till next week.

Quick question, does the magnetic stir bar that comes with the unit fit inside (work with) the Red Sea test vials?

Or do I need to purchase smaller magnetic stir bars?

Jskr, Thanks. This was a great thread and a fantastic idea.

Andrew, I purchased the taylor stirrer and it's the best tip I've gotten all year. Made testing a lot easier and more accurate. You wouldn't think timing, shaking and adding drops would be such a big deal, BUT it is. Letting the stirrer take care of all the shaking actually allowed me to keep an eye on timer. And I am sure it did a much better job of creating a well-mixed, uniform solution.

For anyone thinking of purchasing I would just point out that the included magnetic stirrer is 25mm and will not fit into a Red Sea test vial which about 19 mm at the mouth and about 27 mm at the base. Both external measurements. You can use the included plastic vial and stirrer to conduct Red Sea Mg, Ca and Alk tests but the Mg is a little sketchy with only 2 ml of water. Since there wasn't quite enough water to cover the stirrer, there was a bit of chatter or jumping around. But it worked.

You are going to need a 10 mm bar or a cross. Both work well
