So… we thought we had a male Purple Spot Mantis shrimp…

He’s gone through 3 molts with us… solo Mantis shrimp…

And then this happens…

I assume the eggs aren’t fertilized? Or can they self fertilize and lay eggs?

Care? Not sure what to do if they do indeed hatch… 700-900 eggs?!?!? IMG_9821.jpeg

She will lay them and tend to them like any other shrimp but they wont fertilize without a male…. Unless you have a male mantis in there that you dont know about that hitch hiked… lol

Thansk for the fast replies! Looks like they aren’t parthenogenetic. Makes is kinda sad… but it’s still very cute :). She’s always fanning them…
