What I’ve learned so far

Well folks, it’s been nearly 5 months since I started here with my first ever aquarium and I decided it might be fun to write a little post about how it’s going so far. In no particular order here are some of the things I’ve learned so far.
1. Firefish are crazy fast Olympic acrobats with fins as well as champions at hide and seek.
2. Don’t worry about that hermit crab corpse. He’s fine. He’ll be back tomorrow wearing a new outfit. He just molted and will do it more often than you think!
3. I habitually do a snail count every time I enter them room and am fully prepared to play a game of “flip the snail”.
4. Peppermint shrimp are jerks
5. Duncans are immortal
6. I’m convinced Caribsea live sand came with complimentary bristle worms and they thoroughly heebie my jeebies
7. A turkey baster can be your best friend
8. You will get emotionally attached to everything in your tank. I never thought I’d be sad about a snail.
9 You’ll almost immediately want to go get a bigger tank.
10. You can never have too many buckets.
11. You don’t think you’ll ever be excited about algae until you see that first bit of purple coming in.
12. And lastly, my ******* peppermint shrimp are now producing food for my fish in the form of eggs 😳

Hopefully you all can get a little something out of this post, even if it’s just a laugh at my expense! I’d like to hear any of your “things you learned by winging it as a brand new reefer” lists too!

Your statement about firefish was funny. I never realized how fast they were until I put one in my tank

When the guys at the fish store was trying to net it from the tank, it literally jumped out of the tank into the tank next to it.
