Marimo balls vs Chaeto

A few months ago I converted my 10g with guppies to saltwater (1.025) as I want to put some in my refugium. I had a couple of Marimo/Cladophora moss balls (Aegagropila linnaei) and I left them in the tank to see if they could adapt to saltwater. After a few months showing no signs of die off I dropped it in my hospital tank which has both dim lights and cupramine. The algae is still thriving.

Given they are more dense, compact and move/tumble naturally, I now wonder if they can compete with the denitrifying abilities of chaetomorpha, as I would gladly make the switch. With my current ich outbreak I’m treating I don’t have the ability to do a test but if anyone here is willing to do an A/B comparison that could be a game changer. Possibly even replace ATS units. I’ve seen some really insightful tests from @Humblefish and others here, so if anyone is up for it I’d be really interested to hear

Did you end up continuing with this? Love having my chaeto slowly roll around but a Marimo Ball would be so much cooler.

It slowly withered away but I think it might have been due to the medications (copper, etc) in the QT tank and the lack of proper light. It did look unbothered at first and last quite a while. Worth experimenting on a display or refugium if you’re curious.
