Maroon clowns…

Hey guys. So i might be the idiot for buying these two maroon clowns. I know they are jerks and mean. So basically I got these two maroon clowns (not a mated pair) and i’m going to put them in my 20g tank with nems. The concern is that they are the same size pretty much and they’ve shown a little bit of aggression to each other already. But if they don’t work out i have a oceleris clown that is in my bigger tank. I could do a switch and put one maroon in my other tank which has a mean wrasse coral beauty and tomini tang. They are all much bigger than the maroons. But my other clown is much smaller than the maroons so i know that’s good for a pair. So if i were to put one maroon and the ocelearis in my 20gallon and the other maroon in my bigger tank would that work? Would the maroon and the oceleris be okay together? Would they pair and not fight?

Why not the maroon pair in the big tank and the oceleris in the 20?

Not my expertise but I'd bet dollars to donuts that the maroon would bully the oceleris if they were together in the 20. The two maroons might figure out how to coexist if left in the 20, but I wouldn't bet on that either.

Well there’s 2 maroons and only one oceleris. But I wouldn’t want them to bully everyone in the bigger tank

They will kill each other if not mated. If same size it’s hard to mate. It’s even hard with a size difference. But same size it’s like 99% gonna be an issue. As for Maroons and Ocy clowns. I don’t that bigger maroons will leave them alone for the most part. As long as the Ocy does not try to defy odds and take on the maroon. Had 4 Ocy and one 3” maroon in my tank at one point all was good. The ocy where more into milling themselves vs the maroon killing them.

But moved my maroon to another tank here I have a 1.75” maroon I’m trying to bond it with. It’s been tough but little guy is still alive as of now. The HD egg crates helps to give them an escape route. Best is to always keep an eye on them when possible. And when you can’t expect a dead fish sadly. It’s why it’s so expensive to buy a mated pair. It’s a tough thing to do.

Ok thank you… So do you recommend me putting one maroon and my only ocy in the 20 together and the other maroon in the 40?

Yea, they will probably bond easier with a Ocy vs another maroon! So crazy! But it’s wild animals we are dealing with. Here is a pic of my brothers with a bonded pair of Ocy’s. If you look at the top left you can see the small male in the jail cell for now haha.

Also when binding maroons it’s best no other kind of clowns in the tank.

They nip but don’t go too crazy. One other thing is nems. Once I put mine in my tank with a nem. That was it. It was its territory. Then it would jolt out towards passer Byers haha. But it stated near its nem. My tank is a 60” 130+-.
