Good morning all!

While doing research, I found a ton of information on Maroon clowns and their aggressive nature, and was wondering if they would be aggressive enough for one of my 350g FOWLRs. Has anyone kept/tried to keep Maroons in with any of the following? Were you able to keep a nem with them, or was it harassed by another tankmate?

TRIGGERS (not undulated, titan, or queen)
LARGE WRASSE
LIONFISH
TANGS
LARGE ANGELS
PUFFERS
EELS (ZEBRA OR SNOWFLAKE)

I know these are larger clownfish, even the males get to be close to 4", and most females I've heard tipping the ruler at 6-7". Based on my research thus far, I wouldn't dare putting them in anything calmer then my neutral FOWLR.

Thoughts?

Blessings all :)

From what I have read, if you want all your other fish to die a painful death, go ahead and throw in a maroon. . . it will just be a matter of time. . .

But in all seriousness, yeah a maroon is probably a good, if not the best, choice for an aggressive clown that should be able to hold it's own. . . Keep in mind that is just from what I have read as I have never kept anything close to your stocking haha. Good luck and bump.

I kept a pair with tangs, melanurus and red head Solon wrasse, blue throat and Niger trigger with no problems. The maroons had their area claimed and other than trying to keep the other fish away it was fine. I never had them terrorize anyone but me lol. I couldn't keep coral on their rocks the female would rip off anything I glued down. This was in a standard 150g

How big was everyone? Did they have a nem?

The female was actually my first fish when I entered the hobby. She was maybe 5" tip to tip before being rehomed. Her first mate died at maybe 2-3". Her second mate stayed small maybe 2" It was funny because he looked more like her baby than her mate. They had a couple of bubble tip nems.

Maroons can be aggressive as females. I've had on more than one occasion the female maroon chase away Emperor angels. Also, they can wiggle their body on the bottom and stir up a great deal of sand which then blows around. No real issue with aggression towards other fish, except emperor angelfish for some reason.

Interesting choice of a target to pick on. So it might be a better fit in with, say, a couple triggers (Picaso, bluethroat, Niger, and/or clown), clown tangs, and maybe puffers in the more aggressive of the two tanks? I've heard how ornery these fish can get, and I'm trying to find equally terrorizing tankmates. (save for maybe the puffers, they're just too cute :)) Would a large nem help keep them more centralized and less likely to chase someone clear across the tank?

I want a lion too but don't want it to get picked at, and I've heard mixed reviews on puffers being fin-nippers. A puffer should be fine in that aggressive of an environment right? If the puffers can hold their own, and the maroons are suitable with triggers, that gives me room to shift the lion to the neutral FOWLR. I just want everyone to be able to stand their ground.

Blessings :)

Mine was in a 90g (6 inches) with some Damsels, a Coral Beauty, a Yellow Tang and a bunch of other fish I can't remember. It did fine aggression wise. It was actually pretty mellow. It did have an anemone hosting it.
