Last time I killed a few big Aiptasia I got planulation.
Good luck. Improbably need to refresh in peppermint shrimp.
Also love the stand. That’s things gonna be rock solid!

I've got a couple peppermints in there, they're super lazy and don't seem to be doing anything. I had a work horse in the past but he passed away during a molt :(

I was pleasantly surprised how quickly the Peps I added to my tank mowed down my aps. I had never had them be that efficient before!

Planulation is a stress response where they can release thousands of tiny aips when you kalk paste them. So I no longer have a few big ones but have dozens of tiny ones. Hopefully my Peps get to work on the smaller ones. I was giving them a free pass on the larger ones lol

Edit: apparently aips only planulate sexually when they are happy. I don’t know how to explain it then, but when I try to kill big healthy Aiptasia with kalk paste it often leads to tiny baby Aiptasia all over the tank. Maybe the stress response from one is sensed by the other happy aips and causes them to planulate. Either way, I have new dispersed tiny ones after attempting to kill my larger ones.
Maybe it’s just simple correlation not causation, but the only time I’ve ever seen it is after killing some bigger mature aips.
As a side I’m not really sure Aiptasia hurt anything. My corals seem to grow right along side them without issue.
Maybe I need to get a Berghia population going to rid the whole system.

My 150, 50, and 35 all have an Aptasia eating filefish. Not an aptasia to be found.

Funny how that works. It’s like you get the one with the taste for them and you’re good. I’ve found CUC to be like this too, especially for bubble algae. Get the right pithos/emerald crab and the job is done. Get the wrong one and nothing changes. Weird how that works.

This one, Lysmata wurdemanni, eats aptasia. Most of the others don't. This is why many say they don't work. Others are known for eating coral.

One trick I learned from my LFS… quality marine sells them by species. L. wurdemanni. My shrimp team from them has been great.

I was just in there Wednesday but wasn’t looking hard at livestock. Kinda an in and out for frozen food visit. I saw he had some CUC in, but I’m not sure what all was in there.
Unfortunately I’ve been getting the feeling my LFS may close for a little while now. Honestly not sure how he’s keeping the doors open. His helper is always telling me they almost closed last week… for the last few times I’ve seen the helper in there.

Right? I'm guilty of supporting online stores before my LFS tbh.

Outside of driving 1.5-2hrs, there is a single store here (45 mins away) with limited stock and questionable pricing.

I feel you. I have 3 stores within about 45 minutes of me. I try to check with them first and if they are within a reasonable percentage of what I can get it for online, I figure it is worth the convenience. But, their dry good selection is pretty limited to Red Sea products. So if it is anything other than RS I almost always have to go online to get it.

My LFS is really good. It would
be really sad to see him go. Only 10 minutes from my house. Has all the dry goods at map pricing. Even matches prices. Reminds me im looking at lights. Need to see if he’ll match Meridian BF sale or if I need to order it direct.
