I’m considering a remodel of some of my system. With the new remodel, I would end up with my skimmer being exposed to bright light. I have high nutrients and also grow coraline algae very quickly so the skimmer being exposed to bright light seems like trouble or at least an increase in maintenance.

Does anyone know of a reef-safe material that I could use to wrap the body of my skimmer to prevent light from shining in the skimmer and promoting algae growth inside it?

I should have specified, it would be an in-sump skimmer.

Get a sheet of 1/16 abs plastic. If you heat it to 200-250 degrees, it will be pliable enough to form a sleeve. Just slide it over the skimmer chamber.

I hadn't considered this material. Thanks. I'm sure I'll find other uses for it also.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
