Anyone know if the Matted Filefish are clam safe?
I have a pretty bad aiptasia invasion and multiple introduction of Peppermint shrimps have not worked since I've witnessed my Fairy wrasses ripping them apart and the Scarlet cleaner shrimps also go after them.
I'm asking about the filefish because I would think a Copperband butterfly would be a worser choice in regards to the clams.

TIA

Never heard of them nipping clams but any soft bodied lps like acans are probably on the menu.

Probably ok, but there are no guarantees. They are probably as safe as any tang or angelfish other than Genicanthus.

I have the same experience . A copper band has always worked very well on apastia for me. However my tank is too small for the Copper Band long term (75 gl). I recently put two peps in there & have seen nothing of them since . Only thing that gives me hope is I haven't seen any pep shell or such. The only fish is a Swiss guard basslet & a tiny goby. are you going to try the file fish? My next effort will either be the files or another small copper Band . which ever I run across first .

Copperband has also worked well for me in the past but they are prone to being bullied by any established surgeon fish in the tank. Another reason I cannot consider a Copperband this time around is also because there are about 8 clams in the tank now and I’m not sure that I want to chance a Copperband with clams.
I just picked up a Filefish today but it will be in QT for 4 weeks before I put him in the display tank.
