Hey R2R, I primarily read through my local reef forum. However I wanted to make my build thread here to get a broader range of inputs on what I’m doing. I’ll likely stick to my plans but it’s always good to hear other opinions.

I grew up with a reef tank in my house, but never dealt with its maintenance. This past fall I got a IM 10, then this winter I got a Red Sea 170, and now I’m starting this 90 gal cube build.

I got this tank used from a local Reefer who moved into a bigger tank recently, it is a 90 gal 30x30x24 (almost a cube?) it has the a unique setup with a grey pvc bottom with 4 outlet and 1inlet holes for a closed loop. I am going to run this closed loop with 2 large DC jebao pumps with plans to upgrade them down the line (shoutout unions). I will have the outlets be loc-line with RFG nozzles for random flow. The pumps give about 8000gph from the outlet so I’m expecting a lot of flow in this tank.

The tank is still dry, and I will add more info later. But for now here’s a pic of my Red Sea 170 in its prime and then some shots of the dry tank.

Here’s my old tank. It’s just got the nems and rocks in there now. Everything else has been sold or put into the frag system.

Welcome to Reef2Reef! Looks good! I have a 93 cube and love it!
Thank you! Your tank looks great, I can’t wait to fill mine with wrasses like that. I’m going to read through your thread, but is there anything you would do differently in hindsight?

Good question. I was on the fence between the cube and a bigger tank. Might be a very common answer of "I should've gone bigger" but I have learned a few things along the way with this tank that will help the transition to a bigger tank easier. I think going from a 20 AIO to a 150 gallon for instance would have been rockier with more mistakes.

Good tank maintenance and husbandry goes along way.

I sadly never put water in this tank. I moved to an apt with size limitations and had to sell it. Here is my new tank build
