Short Answer:
Most Max Nano owners keep the water just below the overflow wall, so the surface is skimming constantly but gently. It should just kiss the overflow teeth, not pour over dramatically.
Ideal Water Level Tips:
1. Water should skim the surface
You want a thin film of water going over the weir (overflow wall).
This ensures oils/proteins are removed and keeps surface agitation smooth.
2. Don’t submerge the overflow
If water is too high and flowing over the wall, you're at risk of:
No surface skimming
ATO issues (false readings)
Microbubbles in the return section
Increased salt creep
3. Avoid too low either
If water sits way below the overflow, you risk:
Poor skimming
Loud trickling sounds
Pump cavitation
