Hey guys!

This js my first maxima clam, and have had him for about a month. All was going well until this past weekend. Came home from out of town and noticed one side of the mantle is not extended how it usually is. Also noticed that there is bright white shell exposed. I did some research here to try and save some time. I checked closely for pyramid snails, and found none. To my inexperienced eye, it does not appear to be pinched mantle. Any ideas? Pictures are below.

What's your lighting like? 0 nutrients is not good for a clam, unless you run some kind of ULNS program with heavy feeding. If the inner shell margin is nice and white, and you have seen some kind of growth, then that would rule starvation out.

Thanks for the replies! My tank is 24” deep, and im running two hydra 52’s on the David Saxby TQ1 programming. Should I be trying to increase my nutrients a bit to see if that helps?

As far as tank mates picking at it, I have been keeping s eye on it and have not noticed any. I have hermits, strawberry conchs, two clowns, one cardinal, a diamond goby, and a scopas tang. Havent had a problem with any of them in the past.

Some conch can irritate clams, i watched one go up the shell of a clam and post up at the mantle, then watch the mantle retract.

It may not be the cause, but maybe?
