Maxspect gyre xf130 Vs. Ecotech Vortech mp10 QD?

Ok guys I'm debating on which wave maker to go with and I can't decide between these 2 and I need your help to choose?
Let me know on performance and longevity for these! I thank you for your help!

never owned vortech but really like gyre. i have had it for like 3-4 months and it's all good.heard you have to clean it more often... i also know a guy who never cleans and it's working!
price is also a big difference! bought mine for like $175!

Yea that's why I was interested because it was cheaper and it can get flow in every spot of the tank, I think it would be perfect for my 30g cube!

I think an 18" cube is about the limit for an MP10 – about 12" of real, solid flow. You'd need at least two, or an mp40.

30 gallon tube flow from gyre would be at 5%! i have 58 gallon and only need to be at 10%

I like them both instead of a 10 I have a 40. I agree with @mcarroll about the flow of the mp10, you might think of using and mp 40 if you are thinking of going the vortex route. The gyre's are great and I have them set now at a pulse in my 72

I have 3 cheap wave makers right now and I'm wanting to eliminate 2 plugs, I wasn't even sure if I needed the mp10 or mp40 if I were to go that route! But I think I'm going to give maxspect a try!

The MP is definitely better quality, has more features and is better looking in the tank. The Gyre probably moves more water when its working well. I have both. My MP40 easily reaches 72" across the tank.

For the cube I would recommend the XF and run it vertical

It's hard I know but don't get sucked in by the price difference between the two. IMO go with an MP40 hands down.
I ran the Gyre XF-130 for a year on my 40B. It's now sitting in a box in my closet.

Haha nice I know the mp40 is great! But the price is high but I know in the long run it would be worth it!

look for the 230 instead of the 130. The new controller that comes with the 230 give one more options than the 130;)

I have both running on both of my tanks.
Although probably not advised, I have had my 3 mp40's running for over 2yrs and I've never cleaned them once. I find myself cleaning my gyres every couple of months. One or both sides will seize up and then I have to take them apart.

Also it would seem that the gyre is a great area for algae to collect. Just cleaned bubble algae off mine last night.

Also if you have the reef link you can really tune your vortech in.

Vortech all the way in my opinion.

I have a gyre 150 and mp-10. I used the gyre on my 60 cube but it seemed too much. The mp-10 is perfect with my sea swirl. I don't turn the mp-10 above 50%

Dead area directly beneath it. Pushes all detritus to the opposite end where it stays. If you want Gyre action you must switch paddles. Takes time to tear it apart just to clean it. Then getting it back together correctly is a pita! Cages swell/warp making them a bugger to adjust if needed/wanted. Good luck if you've got corals already placed on the rock and can't be moved as there just so many places to put the Gyre.
I just found it a bigger pita then it was worth. Love my Jebao PP-8's hands down.

I have had a mp10 in the past and now have a gyre 150. Here are my thoughts:

- in terms of flow, the gyre BY A MILE! And I am not comparing the 150 to the mp10 . My xf150 moves more water in my 80inch long tank than a mp40 could even dream off!! It would take at least two mp40s to get near the same results. Unless you do as some like to do and add other pumps to creat "randomness", in which case you basically kill the gyre concept in itself. With just one gyre in my tank I have zero detritus accumulation in my rockwork.

- having said this, for your tank it would not be such a big issue given smaller size.

- modes: with the new controller there is really not much difference between both

- price: gyre

- maintenance : mp10 hands down. You can even have a spare wet side and when you need to clean it just swap them out.

- aesthetics: unless you can hide the but ugly motors plus cables hanguing on the sides of your tank like a couple of Mickey Mouse ears (or one gigantic wart if it is just one) I cannot even begin to understand the comments about the mp10/40/60 being nicer looking! If it is an in wall tank or peninsula that allows you to hide the mp10 great. If not, to me the gyre is much less obtrusive.

Finally flows pattern: you will constantly tamper with the positioning of your mp10 because it is not adjustable. You cannot point it where you want it and given its cone type of flow pattern you will always get dead spots that will keep you constantly tweaking.

To me the gyre wins hands down. Not even a contest. My only gripe is the maintenance which is indeed annoying. Every two months I take mine out, take it apart and dip for 12h in a citric acid solution, and than put it back together.

I have a Waterbox 25g"90L" Peninsula and chose the MP10 over a Gyre. It's fine tunability and versatility through your phone, as well as being basically one of the highest quality brands was too good for me not to pass up.
It can be a Gyre and do what you need in the way of flow, and you can always repurpose it if you want to change things.
I've seen people run the MP10 Dry sides for over 10 years on these forums so they last if you take care of them.
I plan to slowly upgrade to ecotech. I want an S1 or S2 return, and an X15pro, and then I should be pretty much done with the flow and lighting of my tank. Everything can be repurposed, is all highly controllable on your phone in the same app. It really sounds nice.
