May 2025 POTM winner @6t4nova

WOW! Was it a live photo/video and screenshot? iPhone cameras are good but usually can’t capture it to that degree of stillness?
Surprisingly that was a Live Photo. Got lucky and timed it just right

More importantly. What is the cuties name and how long have you had him for? And does he do this at every feeding or every time you walk up to the tank? I know personality wise/intelligence they are a lot like puffers or so I’ve heard lol.

My daughter named it Dotty. We’ve had it for 3.5 years now and it’s really full of personality. Anytime you walk near the tank it swims up to you and starts spitting water immediately lol

So exactly like my Hewbie! Hewbie is a porcupine pufferfish and does the same thing he also likes to do zoomies around the tank/jumping up and down in the water and tolerates the occasional scratch on the head or tummy. Although his mouth is big and wide so it’s not a water gun it’s more like a giant splash of water and a puddle lol.😂😂

lol Hewbie sounds like a rockstar! There’s a photo in the mariner of the month voting thread this month of a puffer we had for a while. His name was “puffy spikes” and it was a sad day when he passed.

I’ve debated getting another but still haven’t done it.

My daughter talks me into all kinds of wild fish. Had an angler for quite a while and an octopus for a bit. No telling what she will convince me to get next

DO IT! I always say you truly haven’t experienced the joy of a fish until you’ve owned a pufferfish or a boxfish. Although I am bias towards pufferfish being the best! Besides the obvious defense of puffing up they are so intelligent and personable. True saltwater puppy dogs!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind words.

I have a love hate relationship with that fish. It loves to bite but it sure is funny when you're walking by the tank and it spits water on you.
To be fair Hewbie does too and it hurts like a MF! So after I’m done screaming at his adorably cute and guilty face..I always forgive him and he’s so cute so I could never stay mad at him. And in the fishies defenses they don’t have any hands or feet and are like toddlers or babies in the sense that they think everything is food and use their mouths to explore.

too funny. Yes it does hurt and it's the element of surprise that's the worst!

I have my head on a swivel or try to when my hands are cleaning his tank lol! I have to remember who he is lol. Now my clownfish in my other tank are so good and swim away from my hands lol. I know lots of people who have the opposite experience lol.

Congrats on the award!
