Today's update: All about the flow. Some vids showing tank flow. My torches and acros really love where I have it today. Flow provided by all AI Pumps. Two Orbits 4's, two Nero 7's, and two Nero 5's.

You have great flow! We have a 5' tank and trying to get better flow. What are your power head settings? By you having gyres on the ends and Nero's on the back, how do you have them synched? Thanks,

Great looking tank, I probably missed it somewhere but what meridian strips do you have? I have a 48" meridian and was thinking about adding a strip to the front like you have.
Thanks!

The mains are two 24’s and a 12. The front edge bars are two 12’s.

Are they the same spectrum as the mains or different? Reefbreeders has 4 spectrums on their website now so I was struggling on which to go with.

The mains are OG and the bars are 14k. I think they’re called shallow reef now.

I was just going through old pictures of my previous tank. I pulled this monti cap out in one piece somehow. It was HUGE and shadowing to many corals.

Nice form and growth there!
I helped move a tank for a guy back in my LFS days and he had one like that. I remember he was amazed seeing it fill up a whole brute trashcan!

Killing it! If you’re anything like me you’re going to love looking back at this every 3 months to track your progress. If you don’t document it you really can’t tell in person until your yanking basketball sized colonies out in a few years!

Thanks Scott. I really am please where things are at the moment.

And you’re absolutely correct on documenting both in writing and pictures. I’m always looking back to see the changes I may have made with chemistry or maintenance practices. And of course the pictures to see changes in color and growth.

You never caught that fire shrimp did you? Mine is very shy as well. Hope I never have to take him out.

Nope. I’m home sick today but feeling better than expected and off tomorrow too. I’m gonna go back in and try again. Smart little bugger. I’ve had a few opportunities to catch it where it was away form the rock, but I failed. Hard to navigate the corals and catch the shrimp! I may get two bins and remove all the rock today or tomorrow. I can’t bring myself to killing it with the Milbemycin treatment! Beautiful majestic animal. Most may not see it that way. But I’m a reefer and it matters to me!

I’d be the same. Besides, I don’t know if I can live with a shrimp outwitting me. 😂

@bcampbe1 No easy way to share, so I mapped it out. See if this works.

@bcampbe1 - Also, as I'm sure you know, pump placement has everything to do with your rockwork and corals. This video shows where my pumps are relative to my rock work. The 5's are pivoted upwards while the 7's are pointed pretty straight foward. I fist set intensity to a level that I feel there's movement on every part of the tank. Then really keep and eye on your corals to and see if they all or at least most like it.

I needed to tweak this setup a lot for accomplish where I am now. It was either the SPS loved it or the softies/ LPS did but not so much the other. It's tricky in a mixed reef and why I chose 6 pumps. If all SPS, blast away or all LPS/ softies usually do well in shifting gentler currents. You can usually tell shortly after making an adjustment if you're in the ballpark by looking at your corals and sand. But the test to see if you have it right is after a few days.

Good luck!

Thanks. I'll continue to play around with flow. We're running Icecap 4k gyres on each end random 52% max and Jebao SOW 15 on each end with alternating flow.
Sounds good. It took weeks to get it where I like it. Be patient and look for how the corals respond.

Also, I see we live in the same area. I'm about 15 mile west north west of Atlanta in Dallas.

Thanks Steve! And hopefully I can keep most of them that way. Our little pieces of ocean and little ticking time bombs. 😅

Saw you got your new tank. Let the fun begin! I do love the build part.
