I have a very messy diamond goby. I also have very fine grain substrate. The two are not mixing well. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I could safely add some larger grained substrate over mine to give this little guy something to sift through that hopefully won't create a cloudy sand storm in my tank?

I would add it in small amounts over a few days/week. I would also use a plate or something to put the substrate on and lower it into the tank.

Slowly add as said above over time BUT I use a ziplock bag. Rinse the substrate you wish to add... add it to the bag removing all air. Lower the bag where you want to drop it and open bag and pour it out ever so slowly.
