Guys guys guys!!! Today is such a GOOD day!!

First, This morning I spotted my emerald crab. I’ve only ever seen him like 2-3 times within the past MONTHS!

Then, Later today I added some fish that completed their QT:
  • 1x Red Firefish
  • 1x pyramid butterfly
  • 4x Lyretail Anthias (squamipinnis)

And the FINAL part that is making me SO happy right now…

I’ve been reefing for years, and I’ve never ever seen a pineapple sponge in any of my tanks. I changed my DI resin and I see a PINAPPLE SPONGE!!! @Dan_P

I’m doing the right things guys!!! Look at all the filter feeders! I doubt it’s the phytoplankton since I literally just started it like a few days ago. I believe dosing cheato gro, adding vinegar, and adding the KP rocks made this impact! I’m so fricking elated!

Going back to LED’s. I’ve tried so hard to make T5’s work, but the last straw was the heat. Since putting on the canopy the temp rose 1F despite me using fans, adding ventilation holes, and even running a chiller.

T5 was nice, but it didn’t have any noticeable improvement in growth rate (which was the main reason I even purchased the T5’s a year ago).

I’m kind of sad about it because I think the spread of T5’s was so good! But I can’t do anything about it. I was warned not to use one in a canopy, but I ran 2!

In good news, I can have much more par with LED’s.

Tank temp with T5 was at 81F. It’s just a little too high for comfort. 80F is my limit to where I feel comfortable, although I know 81F won’t kill anything.

You have to have a buffer... I get it.

I can make T5’s work if I go with this setup with the cabinetry:

That’s ugly, right?

I made a thread about adding ventilation fans. Man, I really want to continue using the T5’s.

I’m overthinking again. I’m going to head to bed.

Can you hang some sort of translucent fabric to cover the openings? I haven't really looked into it, but it seems like you could find something like a fine mesh that would "breathe"...
