Hello,

I wanted to get a Midas blenny, and wondering about the different localities and colors?

I am specifically looking for one that is yellow with the orange and blue around the eyes...

On la, they have localities of....

Maldives, Indonesia, Africa, and Fiji.

Any idea which is the most colorful?

Thanks!

Hi!
See my post where I got help:
https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/midas-blenny.252486/#post-2978705
Then you will get more pics/answers here on your thread.
Love my midas! I got them because of R2R members recommendations.
  • I got the African variety -love them! Yellow with orange rosy hue
  • I have 2 - but I have a large tank
  • Both African Midas
  • one small gold Midas in rosy yellow tone
  • One large blue and gold Midas - it is a Midas( not the blue and gold little coral nipping blenny)
  • My blue & gold was same price as my gold. Be aware that the color variants can turn more yellow in your tank. I knew that, just but wanted large to make a bonded pair. My blue and gold has soft blue hue .

Mine is an African, and as you describe; yellow fins with a rose-orange wash across his back, blue eyes and a hint of blue underneath that usually looks like a shadow. Got a clear yellow ribbon from eye to operculum that looks a bit like Cleopatra's eyeliner in shape.

Fun fish, but can be nippy with other nearby planktivores who make the mistake of swimming directly below him. His high forehead and sinuous swimming motion kind of reminds me of mahi-mahi.

Mine was around $39 - divers den/ live aquaria. I don't live close to any LFS.
Pics of my smaller gold midas. The close up is my Midas with more"blue" (blue and gold Midas ) and his live aquaria pic.
I added him a week later. They became a bonded pair.

See my last post @Maritimer... I got my Solorensis, or clown fairy wrasse per your suggestion! I love him -beautiful, active and peaceful.

Lookin' good! Great contrast/complement with the midas and the borbonius, and I like the level of red on that guy!
