Wow, they haven't updated their website in years.
Jason,
If you don't mind.
Is the refractometer that used to be on the Filter guys website, one and the same to the VEE GEE STX-3?

Regards, GoVols

I can't validate that as the site is down right now but going by veegee's website the stx-3 would be the one you want.

@CoralNerd
When your new meter comes in today and you calibrate it.
Can you give me (or us) your overall first impression thought's on the Vee Gee and it's nice and bright view plate?

Thanks, Freddie

The VeeGee STX 3 was very easy to read. I went over to my friends house and he had some AquaCraft calibration fluid. I calibrated it with that and also double verified with rodi. When I got home and checked my tank it was 1.024 so I made an adjustment (pushed my ato eye downward) 1.024 aligns with my Triton test using Jim Welsh calculations. I have some Milwaukee and Aqua Craft calibration fluid of mine to be delivered next week so I'll triple calibrate.

Are you happy with the view scale and can you tell that's it is brighter than a regular meter?

One would have to compare one after another under the same light and angle. The veegee was my brightest and DD H2Ocean was the darkest. At the time I was comparing the veegee, redsea, h2ocean, and 3 generic cheapo brine units (marine depot, brs, and amazon)

I'm grateful for your incite and for taking the time in showing me how many meters that you were comparing.

Thank You, GoVols

Calibration is a trick with these fluids HELP

AquaCraft Calibration Fluid on:
VeeGee 35 ppt actually reads 37 ppt

AquaCraft Calibration Fluid on:
Milwaukee 35 ppt actually reads 37 ppt

Milwaukee sent me some fluid.

Milwaukee Fluid on:
VeeGee 1.025 shows 1.025

Milwaukee Fluid on:
Milwaukee 1.025 reads 1.025

Tank Water:
VeeGee Refractometer shows 1.025
Milwaukee Refractometer 1.026 but 34ppt

RODI water 0

Wow, I was going to create a topic for this. I had 1 bottle of Aquacraft solution which read about 1.028ppt on the Milwaukiee. I brought another bottle of it again incase first bottle was off + a bottle of pinpoint solution too. Both read 1.028.

14,458 when is what i get when i add the parts you added from my triton test.

https://monrecifamoi.saulme.fr/salinite/elements_compute_salinity.php says Salinity Sp = 33.1565

So im guessing the Milwaukiee +2ppt, so I now mix salt on the Milwaukiee to read 1.028ppt to get a true 1.026ppt? anyone know if i would run into problems?

Im thinking of buying a Vee Gee Scientific STX-3 now to I guess.

Edit: Sometimes the Milwaukiee shows 1.027ppt too hmm
I mix my salt at 1.028 via Milwaukee. Been doing this for a year. No issues. Meter stays a consistent 2 points off ;)

Aquacraft calibration fluid is junk imo. Too much salt creep under and around the cap.

VeeGee as it shows more details and doesn't round the number up.

Can anyone help on my post above?

I'd say that your bottle of that fluid is off and I'd use the Vee Gee for now on too.

For what it's worth...
My tank is at the mercy of the Two Little Fishes natrual seawater 35 solution being correct.

@CoralNerd
What did you calibrate the Vee Gee with before you came to this?

I use Two Little Fishes natural seawater solution my self. I got my vee gee in on Friday and it seems very solid.

Funny enough my wife tried to send back the Milwaukee to Amazon and they refunded our money......but did not want her to send the unit back. I'm wondering why they don't want the unit back? It's just going to sit on my shelf I guess.
