Is there anybody else out there that has or had a Misfit Island inside your reef tank? A section that maybe you planned or maybe you didnt plan but it kind of took off in its own. An after thought of a place in your tank. A place where you leave a frag of whatever until you figurer out what u should do with it, that one last piece or the accidental cleaning in tank now u have a broken frag on your hands and nonwhere to put it . A place where you just kind of left a frag or two and now you have a Misifit Island in your tank you can't stop looking at because nature just took its course and made its own amazing micro reef. This is what keeps me in this hobby the pure beauty of nature just doing its thing. Heres my Misfit Island to share Aptasia and Algae included.

My filefish tank started with a rogue Kenya tree, small rock with a palythoa and few mushrooms, and one small teal palythoa colony. Just threw everything in as they were pieces from the main dt that had broken off the main rock. It has turned into my favorite tank. I love just watching it do its own thing.

I’m going to set one up. This is really cool. I just have to think of what to put on it.
Cool! Once you get one going you have to post a pic. Whatever happens happens. It should be that one area in your tank that is stress free.

That is kind of my whole tank :):)
LOL! Nice! After I wrote my first post I started to think about it. In the end I guess everybodies entire tank setup can qualify as a Misfit Island.

IM 10g.
Started with a few small zoas and 2 small frags of white and silver pulsing xenia.
A year later the tank was overrun. This is about the size of a soccer ball.
Now a refuge for anything not compatible in the main, though xenia is king.
No skimmer, just ATO, floss filtration, occasional manual dosing (alk and Ca) maybe once every 2 weeks, last water change about 6 mos ago.
Has 3 sexy shrimp, 1 pom-pom crab, 1 emerald crab, 2 bumblebee snails, numerous micro-ceriths, astrinas, and thousands of pods visible at any time.
Hypnotizing to watch.
Thinking of expanding it into a 40g to see what happens.

Wow! That's is really cool. I seen a huge colony in a tank once. So cool to watch pulsing.

A cleaner/up close photo of everything growing on the island. I know there is more out there. Let's see some more cool islands.
