Ive made frags like this, what will happen is the will grow and kinda swirl around each other in growth pattern.but not graft, or one will grow faster than the others and take over, one time i made a frag like this with a purple and a green monti and the purple gree 3 times as fast so it kinda took over

But that shouldnt happen...

I have a couple friends who have just done it on their own. Looks cool once grown out. I remeber a couple threads over on RC where people started doing this also one guy made a checkered board frag. I am not positive but I think the green grows the fastest so dont let it over grow the other two.

This answer depends on the amount of light. 400w MH or T5's? T5s at 4 bulbs or 6, or 8 bulbs?
You also need the right amount of available Ca for the lighting and Alk/Mg ratios along with a high flow to achieve the fastest growth rates. For the average size tank I would say 9 months to a year to get to a softball size. Faster if you have a more serious setup for coral propagation.

I think it also depends on the coral. I have an Orange that has grown from a $.25 size piece to approximately 7' to 8" half circle in just over 5 months. while a piece of purple has only grown to a $.50 size in the same amount of time. Some just grow faster than others.

I'm growing orange and green on the same rock right now, and the orange def grows faster. In fact, in order to "balance" it out, I added another piece of green. I don't have purple in my tank, but I do have green, orange, purple tipped green, and green with neon green polyps.

These always look cool when they get some size to them. I've noticed like everyone else, the Orange and red seem to grow the fastest. My green is the slowest growing of them all.

My green is actually growing pretty quickly in my tank. I went from a half dollar sized frag to a softball+ colony in less than 6 months.

heres a pic link to a top down of my cap trio View image: image

also i agree the orange seems to grow the fastest.. but i also think starting size of each frag also has a big factor on growth rate...
