Mixing BTA Types

Hello all! Have any of you had experience mixing different colors/types of BTAs? I never thought of it as an issue, but I recently heard someone that said he had issues with his BTAs when he started mixing his rose bubble tips with rainbow bubble tips.

I currently have a 40 gallon breeder aquarium with 5 rose bubble tip anemones, 2 Amphiprion ocellaris, and mixed softies and LPS. The aquarium has been running for almost 2 years. I use a Current USA LED light, have a DIY sump (recently added a 110S Reef Octopus Skimmer, previously did not have a skimmer), I run a filter sock and a carbon reactor (though I do not change the carbon as often as I should). I plan to pick up a couple of green BTAs with red tips (not sure what they are called) on Saturday and add them to the tank with my rose BTAs. What are your thoughts?

It depends on where they are coming from...wild caught and aqua-cultured dont tolerate each other

Are your rose bta's the sherman? If so, I wouldn't do it. I added a couple wild nems in my old system and my sherman acted funny afterwards....guess what happened next? I got rid of the wild nems haha.

If they are all wild then it should not be an issue.

I don’t see an issue. In my tank I have a green BTA (day glow), a rainbow BTA, and had a black widow (didn’t do well but that was because of tank parameters). Both of my current nems have split in my tank.

I currently have green and rainbow in my tank without issue. I have had them together for about 10 months.

I have heard issues related to mixing wild caught with others as well as mixing black widows and higher end nems like sunburst. I have no personal experience with it but enough people have had problems to make me think it must not be a coincidence.

How do you tell if a BTA is wild? Are they just the duller colored ones? (Everywhere that I have SCUBAed, the anemones are much more bland than the ones I see in the hobby.)

Just ask the seller. They should know if it’s wild caught as they would either of had it imported or purchased it from a aquaculture facility or hobbyist.

I would say that its a good thing to ask, but it's not like everyone is honest. Also how long does it take to say it is aquacultured, 1 spilt, 2 splits, 20 splits. I've seen Shermans die in systems with long term wilds, same for black widows. I can't afford a CSB or I would have probably killed one of those by now too :P

I have all colors...wild and aquaculture . Just keep up with carbon and you should be fine.
