Randy,

I feel the same way you do in regards to using recirculating CO2 scrubbers and the possibility of reducing O2. I know most of the recirculating setups draw air from the skimmer cup. However, wouldn't simply placing the intake hose in the sump (securing it above the water line obviously) have the same effect? This would draw in moist air, in theory anyway. I was also thinking of using a dual canister set up, with the first canister half filled with water. The air passing through the first canister would gather humidity before entering the media canister.
I hope this makes sense as it sounds quite confusing in my head.

There are lots of ways to add moisture without making it recirculating. One is to pass the air over or through water on its way to the skimmer. How to best do that may depend on your setup, but drawing air from a mostly closed sump will work. The dual chambers with some water at the bottom would also work, but likely not as well. The moving warm water with more surface area in a sump will humidify faster.

Randy, would it be better to just run your higher pH DIY or the scrubber? I will see how the scrubber works and how fast I burn through media since it will be delivered today. I'd like to run an air hose outside, but I'd have to drill through the floor. That isn't a conversation I want to have with my wife at the present time.
