my new cap is fading.. can this be due to undectable levels of phos/nitrates??

alk: 7.7
cal: 400
phos: 0
nitrates: 0

i turned off my gfo/purigen reactors.. it will 48hrs at around 8pm tonite.. any advice??
skimmer still going..

maybe just run the GFO, no purigen??

Keep your alk higher

its ridiculous how much two part im putting into this tank that doesnt have much stony coral..

80g total water volume..

NEW: monitcap frag, (sunset monti frag, favites frag -- in the tank about 1.5wks)
Existing: maxima clam, scoly, and softiets..

im tempted to keep the GFO going tho and just feed a bit more??

i think the avg on that par is 250, it goes above 250 and then below.. i just moved it there gotta give it some more time on the apex fusion graph to get a good avg.

the flow is high.. to the left over about 20" is a vertical icecap 3k running on random straight down that back wall.. 40% on the icecap.

what if i just run GFO and skimmer, no GAC.. i just wanna see some nitrates on the test kit... tank is BB if that matters.

IMO, bring the alkalinity up a little and try for a little dirtier water, GFO can strip your phosphate which can starve your corals.. 5-15 ppm nitrates and 0.05 phosphate is what I shoot for...
Are you checking your magnesium at all?

the two part has mag in it.

Be careful, I would still check you mag levels....
Don’t rely on the levels in that 2 part to stay where they need to be...

i have the gfo/gac off.. sooo i let that bake for a couple days

Another thread with zero nitrate and phosphate and Coral fading. Feed 3 x more if u don't dose amino acid do it. Acropora is a good choice and doesn't brake your bank. Shut down skimmer but still let it make bubble by open the air inlet full. Do it for 2 week's check phosphate n nitrate. If u check Sanjay , Mike , Adams BC, Matt Boom Coral they all run their tanks with detectable nutrients. I would aim for phosphate 1ppm n nitrate 10ppm.
Good luck

I think that most people agree that these days the general recomendation is around .02 phos and 5-10 nitrates.

If you are adding tons of alk and it isnt rising i woukd check your mag level pronto. Seems like you are adding a lot though, i add 100ml a day to my 300 and i have a monti cap that wouldnt even fit in a 20 gallon tank..

Good luck, i am sure it will.come around..

Ah yes, My Mg is down.. because i stopped dosing Ca for a week..

my two part has Mg mixed in with the Ca.. oops.. i actually just brough Ca back on line a couple days ago.. added a little Mg, half of what the bottle claims i should put

That will do it. I dont know what brand you are using but i always dose exactly the same amount of cal and alk..
im using reef fusion, my calcium was over 500.. so i stopped to bring it down..
