API and Red Sea have both give false positives is there a trust worthy saltwater ammonia test kit?

Are you cycling your tank? If so salifert will do.
If not then don't bother testing ammonia.

API was fine for me. I'll be honest, the only time I test for ammonia is when things look off (say the fish are acting different or all the corals closed up).

There is test just testing the toxic form - NH3 - Sea Chem have different types of that. According to what I have read (not tested by myself) they are more reliable than the tests that test total ammonia (NH3+NH4) And yes - you can´t trust them because the most common result with them is 0.2 ppm IME. Even if the real value is 0
