Having a Sump to handle the water when the power shuts down I would think is the logical fix. Can't you lower the level in the sump to give you the extra room.

That's true, but I feel like in 21st century reefing with all its modern tech. Motorised valves should be a thing definitely. For manifolds or returns or overflows, even if its just for the lazy people who don't want to bend down and manually isolate a valve.

Be cool to have motorized valves setup manifold-style. You could control which apparatus get fed from the manifold.

Currently working on building this using solenoid valves coming off my manifold so I can turn on/off valves that feed a GFO reactor and a Carbon reactor. Will automate using Apex and Trident NP, when Phosphate level too high, GFO reactor runs.

The Neptune solenoid valve is for fresh water only, only works on 1/4" line, and has bad reviews, so I went with this solenoid valve that seems pretty beefy and uses reef-safe materials: https://www.ebay.com/itm/292169815613

To control the solenoid valve, it's normally closed, you get the Neptune Accessory bare wire: https://www.ebay.com/itm/285260496163 and plug it into a 1Link module or an FMM with a power supply -- then you just switch it on when you run to open the valve to your GFO reactor.
