Moving a Reef

Possibly moving about 5 hours away from my current location. Anyone have any tips/tricks/recommendations on how to package up my livestock/tank for transport? My initial plan is to bag all the coral and fish individually and float them in a large water filled sealable container. Assuming i'd have to throw a heater in there using a dc/ac converter in the vehicle. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I would keep them in buckets with a battery powered airstone. If the car stays warm, you shouldn't need any heaters

Debated the air stone, I figured... companies ship live stock across the globe in bags, would 5 hours need an air stone? I might not be able to keep the livestock in the vehicle, might have to be in a moving truck, hence the heater :(

Oh for sure they would be ok without.... If you do that, I like your idea but I will also get something to move the water a bit so the water heats evenly...

True true, well i have power heads from my tank, i could always get a two plug DC/AC converter and use a heater and a power head, would have to make sure the wattage wasn't too strong.

Ya lol you don't want to kill the battery on the way.....energizer has a nice 2 outlet inverter for like $30.

As long as you keep the Temp good the fish and coral should be fine. Are you in Richmond, VA? If so I have a 2 outlet inverter you can borrow or buy

Yea i'm in Richmond, VA. I posted a forum on RichmondReefers as well. Just trying to get as much info as possible, moving my tank scares the hell out of me lol. How much would you want for it and what kind is it? I found some on amazon for #30.

what im most interested in is your re setup, without a cycle, to be accurate im savagely nerd interested in it. I started some threads recently about sand rinsing new vs old sands, and the passions ran high when advising how to get in and rip clean an old sandbed, now you are forced to choose since its a move. surely you wont be moving that old sb>> at least without a rip clean?

Very true, especially since i'll be changing to a completely different tank as well. I'm still not concerned as much with that as i am losing livestock on the way
