moving bed bio filter

I see moving moving bed bio filters being used on fresh water. Could they be used in Salt water systems?

Fluidized bed, yes they have been used in many applications including marine aquariums. I think they were a short lived fad in the recent past but they never caught on in popular use, and I don't know why that is.

I just listened to a Reef Therapy podcast where Raj talked about a moving bed filter he sells, discussing with Salem how it has microbiome advantages over wet-dry filters (which still have great microbiome advantages over other types, albeit with some livability downsides). But you're right -- I see it on aquaponic systems and arowana systems all the time, but not as much in saltwater, although the microbiome science might push at least some of the hobby in that direction in the next few years, if Raj and Salem are right.
