Hello everyone,

In the next few months I will be making a long distance move.

Luckily I do not have that many corals, rocks, inverts, and fishes to move so I can get away with a couple of 5 gallon buckets from lowes or home depot.

My question is does anyone have opinions on the best inverter for the job is? Amazon / the internet is full of options and I am a smidge lost.

I am willing to go super cheap but I am also willing to go a bit pricey. The bit pricey one would be if it could be used after the move as a battery backup for the new tank I will be setting up.

The trip will be roughly 2400 miles and 4 to 5 days. I do plan on making my setup portable enough where I can bring the buckets into the hotel room at night. Plan on having a heater in both buckets, A powerhead, set to the lowest I can, with the corals and air pumps on both.

Will the corals be ok with up to 5 days or no light or would I need to add a light to their bucket?

5 days of no light for corals is really pushing it. Is there any way that you could pay your lfs or a local maintenance co to overnight your livestock? They could even wait a month so that you have time to set things up.
I moved my reef from DC to Boston, from Boston to NC, and from NC back to Boston. Each time was an absolute trainwreck. I didn’t lose things, but my goodness it was stressful for everyone.

+1^

id recommend finding a fellow hobbiest or shop that can hold them/overnight them to you when your moved in and tank is setup.

if it was a couple hours away, sure… but 5 days would prob be a nightmare

I agree with every one else.....5 days in a car is a long time for something to go wrong...especially in something as small as a 5 gallon bucket.
