If you were to choose must haves fish in your tank in two category, one in terms of pure beauty and the other in terms of it being a utilitarian fish, what would your choices be?

Money and tank size limitation not a factor.

Yellow tang. Good on both accounts. :)

Oh gosh a White Spotted Pygmy Filefish or a pufferfish. They’re just so cute and silly. But puffers need huge tanks and aren’t reef safe and I think I maxed out my size for a little filefish!

Yellow Watchman Goby. Nice sand sifter, and was a fun fish to have

Naso Tang
Yellow tang
Clownfish pair
YWG Pistol shrimp pair
Foxface
Wrasse(s) of some sort
Angelfish of some sort
Anthias
Midas blenny or similar
Mandarin Goby

Pretty much what my current stocking list is lol

Moorish idol for beauty.

And a mandarin for everything else. They readily spawn, are no maintenance, and live over 10 years with no help from me. Really good looking too. 😀

Do you ever see eggs? Now that I have a seemingly happy couple, I'm wondering what to look for in terms of spawning.

Yes, of course. They spawn all the time but it only takes seconds so unless you are watching at that instant, you won't see it. You will notice the male chasing the female all over the place while she is pregnant.

These two are spawning here. As they ascend, she releases the eggs as the male fertilizes them. Then the very tiny eggs fall to the bottom and you would never find them among the rubble. Especially in my tank which is gravel, not sand.

They do this multiple times.

I always have a pair of clowns in at leat one system.
Best fish for me are aptasia eating filefish and six line wrasses. I keep one of each in every system.

Great, thanks. :)

Lawnmower blenny
Desjardini tang

But I also have 3 yellows, a blue hippo, and a six line wrasse, I find them all to be beauts and utilitarian!

Ah the holy grail for me, cant justify paying 500$ for it though. I had a friend of mine who just got one 5 months ago and died from ich!

Foxface rabbitfish, on both accounts.
I have one such an awesome fish honestly! He's currently in a smallish setup but moving to a large one soon
