I got back into saltwater after almost 10 years of being away. And picked up a 90 reef ready and after 2 months of running I hated it and started building a new set up with basement sump. So here it is.

It’s a 125 gallon DT with full length internal coast to coast overflow and an external box with bean animal drain down to my sump. My sump is in the basement along with a water station and a couple 10 gallon quarantine tanks. The sump is another 125 with a intake/skimmer/rock section and the other end is for a refugium. Intake section is made to fit 3- 4” round filter socks if I wanna run them. And I have more then enough room to do what ever I’d like in the sump now. I hate working in mine now under the cabinet, everything is so cluttered. And no more buckets for water changes.

It’s been a slow process build so far. Just trying to research how to do everything and then putting all the pieces together was a task to accomplish with 2 kids under 3. But I’m now test running water and waiting to get a break in my schedule to transfer everything over from my 90. Then I can start the stand/bookcase build.

Well done! Looking good, please keep us posted!

Also, I have a 3.5 and 18 month old —and it’s always just one of us home at a time because my wife and I work largely opposite schedules - believe me I get it!

Well I got my tanks switched over last night and my 125 build is now up and running. Only took me about 12 hrs and up to 1am. Then today has been rerunning all the wires and cleaning.
This operates and functions so much better and smoother then my 90 reef ready.
Now to finish up my stand/display case.

That is a great setup, I like how your sump room is setup.

Thanks. And thanks to this site for all the ideas. This whole build was based around making the oversized sump with water storage and mixing station right next to it and then all plumbed together.
My wife, “I can’t believe how much real estate your fish take up”.

Yah, it’s a lot dirtier now
I’ve added an apex and ato and doser but I don’t need to dose just yet. Everything is stable with water change every 2-3 weeks. I’ve added a clown pair too. And I grow chateo and harvest a bucket full every water change. I got 5 sps frags, torch, hammer, Duncan is growing crazy, trumpet, leather, some polyps, ? and everything seems happy but my par is low and I’m about to add some t5’s

Late to the party and following! Nice work on the DT and basement sump room. I love my basement sump on my 125.

Any update pictures?

It’s been awhile. A lot has changed. Got rid of mo40 and added a couple wav pumps, probably one of the best things I did. Got my dos up and running. I use my original light purchase the orbit marine led for the ramp up and down but added 4 48” t5(Blue, purple, actinic, Aqua blue). I got lunar light going to at night. My chateo tumbles and I grow some tight balls I harvest every couple weeks with water change. I want to add a kessel grow light but this $25 amazon build seems to be doing the trick.
For fish I got clown pair, yellow tang, starry blenny, lyretail anthias trio, pajama cardinal, Randall goby pair with 3 red banded shrimp all living together, cleaner shrimp, few emerald crabs all sorts of differ t hermits and snails. Coral I dicided to lean towards sps and have like 12 sps frags, leather, Duncan, hammer, few shrooms,
