Flatworm nightmare

Did a treatment, flat worm treatment with flat morm exit changed 30 gallons of water , worms seems to be all dead will se effect on the rest of the tank. the dosing was restricted to the refugium because with my gate valves i can isolate both my refugiums and the main tank. So while i treated the refugium i could still pump and filter the main reef. When i restarted the refugium i just stopped the pumps to the main reef to give the carbon time to filter out the toxin for an hour before i resume the connection of both system.

I had previously taken my seahorses, my lionfish and my big inverts out of there, and put them in the huge overflow at the back of the main reef. Plenty of room and separators to isolate the lionfish. Now i'm just waiting to see the result and if other casulties will emerge. I had tried all possible natural ways, but they overtook the tank.

Sorry for the long wait not myself these days.

Comming out of Hybernation lol

Comming out of Hybernation lol

Over skimming and stopping your skimmer a report on one year experiment: Last year i deciced to reduce my skimming due to the fact that my system and my tank style demanded extra nutrients.

Fed by gravity with a 75G refugium full of 37 different macro's.

The reef has a NPS zone demanding extra feeding and extra nutrients.
12 species of gorgonians with special feeding needs.
It has 13 diffrent species of sponges which requires bacteria and other
nutrients to survive, i have enough sponge matter for it to filter my whole system in 24 hours.

I also have 2 Crinoides, one is a baskets star the other a feather star. Both requires particules
in the water column to survive.

Today after 8 months of skimming only 12 hours a day and looking at my sponges growth and having found the ultimate prize
my crinoides growth, i can say with certitude that shutting down your skimmer half the time is not bad for a system it may help
in its growth. Depending of course on your bioload and what kind of system you have and its demands. No system is alike nor are its
needs. You have to know what your system needs. I knew mine. I also knew how much my sponges filter my water and by how much.

If you look at the video of the feather star and the last of my picture you'll see that the end of her legs have regrown. When sea stars starve the eat their own legs ; its a survival reflex. And in the picture you can clearly see that she's got a nice regrowth. Proof that she's doing ok. They're not easy to keep alive i feel very lucky and hopefully stopping my skimming has helped her get extra food. Any way just wanted to share the result of a year long skimming reduction and its impact on a tank.

Sorry about the resolution its in the back of the tank and i had to over expose since it feeds at night. But she has more legs they can have up to 200 legs when they become large.

Congrats on your success with your high nutrient system. It seems everything is thriving! Not an easy feat

Thanks for your encouragement. And the macro i was affraid it would over take my fuge or my DT was in fact very popular , i put a rock full of it in my DT and less tha 8h later the tangs had shaved it completely so i have no fear of it now. It was the Caulerpa mexicana that proves quite the grower and invasive. But the tangs and the foxface took care of it .

So i'm happy with the experiment;

Thanks for your encouragement. As for your question , none, didn't happened. I was speaking to you the other day thru youtube comment. About temp and such, Im so glad I found this on here. Was just researching, and ran across it. I plan to start building the stand this weekend to begin this 40breeder fuge. What light do you recommend?

Hey man, sorry to hear about your time in the hospital. Hopefully things are getting better. Here's a picture of the "cat shelves" I put up last week. I got the idea from your tank thread. My cat loves them, and I'm thinking of adding a third in the series at about a 45-degree pitch to give him more of a "Cliffhanger" experience.

I still have the tanks but i'm shutting down for a while . Need to regroup; lost my job and a tank without a job is not a healthy tank lol. So instead of letting things go i rather sell the stuff clean the tanks and wait till i get a stable income. I ran it without a job as long as i could and now its time to take a break lol Thanks for following.

Hi guys well its been 7 months since i closed up my tank for unforeseen reasons, some of you knows why, but now its seems like i'll be restarting the tanks system. As i go through my equipment and the pictures of the last operation, i'm force to contemplate the successes but also the failure of the system. Will i do the same kind of tank system i had or do i go another route.
My tank was basically a high nutrient system allowing me to keep a very diversified colony of species. Unlike an SPS rigid emphasis on very low nutrients in the water, which i admire as well; mine was aimed at keeping species with lots of demand and with different nutrients for many colony.
I had sponges which demand a high level of bacteria to prosper. I had gorgonians both photosynthetic and non photosynthetic ; which meant that food additives had to be provided. A huge CUC diversity.
herbivore and carnivore fishes, seahorses, and large crabs. Mostly LPS i had also SPS that to my surprise did well considering the high nutrients in the water.
I also had a huge refugium, ran by gravity with lots of different species of macro algae. So in the next few months before restarting the system( i rather wait till spring, better weather to get things shipped) i'll go through memory lane and talked about what worked and what didn't worked. I did many experiments with mixed results, some very good some bad ones.
