Sunday Night - May the 4th be with you.

Hi Everyone. Well it’s Sunday night again!
Tank is going great, and I’ve figured out a great dosing regime for lanthanum lately that keeps my po4 very stable at between 0.01 -0.08
In past have had some issues with po4 always creeping down to undectable, which is oddly enough no good for the various encrusting montipora. They tend to go very pale, and if exposed to 0.00 Po4 for prolonged periods of time, will actually die. Unlike the Majority of the Acropora species, that show ill effect from regular undetectable Po4 events.
These photos were taken last week on my Canon 7d, with a 17-70mm F1.8-5.6 lens
Since these photos were taken I have actually purchased 3 new colonies whilst I was at Reeflections, as I had a small area to fill since I removed a large montipora.
I am just colouring up these new beauties now, and I will hopefully have some new Photos of them in the next couple of weeks or so.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Real inspiration for me and my tank build right now. I hope my tank looks half as good as this and I will be very happy

I had a few hours free tonight to get the camera out. Enjoy.

Tank has been running a dream lately.

last 18 months only 20 (TWENTY) ltr per week water changerequired. I have never done more than 50ltrs in a week since tank started!
Weekly skimmer cup clean
Daily visually check CaRx effluent rate is still as I setit, if slowed, test alk and reset effluent rate
bi-daily 0.33ml LaCl dosing

I removed a large purple tipped stag from rear RHS thisweek. Was easily over a foot tall and a couple kgs. It was getting to large, and I needed the space.
It wasn't a bad stag, but to be honest I had it colored upas much as it was going to get, and I have a piece of Rod the Reefers"Real Teal"stag that is now getting fairly large and needed to go inits place.
Rod the Reefer’s “RealTeal” in its new home, having out grown its last residence.

Fish Update

Amazing SPS colors and solid design, bravo! I don't see some fish I was curious about in the recent FTS. Can you give some advice on what did and didn't work with the moorish idol, angel, and powder blue tang?

Hi Jreece. Fish are there... but for FTS I scare them into rocks as with a long shutter speed you will usually get a blurred fish or 2 ruining your FTS. The Moorish idol never took to dried or frozen food unfortunately. The Angels and PBT are all fat and healthy

Some of you asked for some pics of my sump arrangement.
I always recommend the same configuration, 3 compartments, very simple, and having the middle compartment as a settling trap to collect detritus. Keep it bare bottom too, so that you can syphon detritus from it every 3-4 months.
Heater and biopellets in the inlet compartment, (booster heater in middle settling trap too), and return section contains skimmer, Carx, stocking of carbon, and of course, ATO and return pump.

It is very convenient to have a purpose built maintenance area for your tank.
