my choc. labhas to have surgery tomorrow... she has a tumor ..which looks fatty but is near her mammory gland..and growing fast..so they want to take it off in case it might be cancer ... I'm totally worried about it now...

I'll cross my fingers for you! I'm sure it will turn out well, but I've gone through it with my dogs so I know how stressful it can be.

good luck and i hope she does OK. i just went through heart disease with my little girl, she ended up with a pace maker and she is now doing so good. she's 8.

The surgery itself is not all that difficult or dangerous (in general, I haven't seen your dog so I can't say for sure) but usually they just cut it out and sew her back together. She might have a drain or something but IMO it's less invasive than a spay. I hope that it isn't cancer *fingers crossed* If it's any consolation, this summer the vet clinic that I worked at had lots of dogs with tumors come in and I think only one of them was cancerous...it was a poodle if I remember correctly. Keep us updated, best of luck to you and your pup :)

yeah..they said if it turned out to be cancer....they'd do a masectomy ... because it is right near one of the mammory glands..and that would be a little more intense for her..but I'm hoping it turns out to just be a fatty tumor..

That sux. I hope all is well too.
I have known labs who have gone in for the same thing, and it was just fat. But, no surgery is good.

i hope all goes well my dog just had suregery 2 weeks ago he had a growth that made his spleen burst i almost lost him but he is good now it will take some time for them to recover but im sure she will be ok.

I will keep you in my thoughts. I am a dog walker, petsitter and dog lover. I know what you are going through

Thanks everyone!

I'm sitting here trying to figure out how I'm going to sleep tonite... instead of just sitting up worrying about her... I'm sure everything will be fine (knock on wood) ... but I tend to be a bit of a worry wart about my dogs ...

Well..the vet called..and she is out of surgery.

The main big tumor was just a fatty tumor...but they did find a pea size one right near there when they were in... and said it was not fatty..but dark...so they recommended I send that off for a pathology report... which we are doing.

She is coming home tonite... now I just have to figure out how to get a 90lb dog out of an SUV w/out letting her jump down..heh...

Well.. pup is sleeping..has been all night...I had to sit outside in my 4runner for 30 minutes ... while waiting for my gf's dad to come help me get her out of there... she was so sleepy...there was no way she was going to get down on her own...

Hopefully tomorrow she'll start to feel better..I'm a little concerned that she still won't drink water...but maybe she is still groggy from the pain meds they gave her.
