So I picked up a Valentini puffer the other day and he has nipped at my Duncan and GSP... the owner of my lfs said that my Duncan would probably recover and I have nothing to worry about but it is looking ghastly. Any chance it recovers?

There's always a chance until the flesh is gone.

That said, if your puffer has decided that your duncan is tasty, then your duncan will ultimately be toast. Coral nippers tend not to stop until they finish whatever they've decided to nip. It's not a hard and fast rule, but I wouldn't expect it to pull through.
