Awesome! I was very sceptical about getting it, I didn’t want to get something that wouldn’t thrive. Thank you for sharing what to look for. Do you know about how often it should expel and refill? I have only witnessed this a few times.
It was hard to swallow that the info that nitrate and phosphate was bad and it needs to be zero was not correct.

Galaxy coral is really cool the sweepers scare the tar out of me. The reason that it's not in my tank . I've seen sweepers exceed 6 inches .

So I found out my order didn’t process so I tried again, this time I ordered neonito and neophos Also ordered a IPC analysts test. All should arrive in 3 days. I’m worried about dosing but know it’s for the better. I can’t let it stay at zero anymore

Go slow. Test in the morning dose test in the evening. Your rock will absorb phospahte and nitrate thats ok. Slow and steady.

So after further research here I read that I should also get some microbacter7 as my good bacteria is likely depleted due to the Dino’s?

Still really freaked out about dosing I know I shouldn’t be but this thing has been like 1 of my kids and is 14 -15 years old. It’s a giant leap of faith at this point. But here I am leaping

I was the same way. It went against all common logic and what I read. All can tell you is that there's been a lot of reefers who have dosed and beat it.

As for good bacteria I added 5 lbs or so of lr and Dr. Tim's waste away and a whole bunch of gunk (that water was ugly looking) from a friends water change. I did not do it all at one time over the course of a few weeks. I added the rock than waited a bit and started adding Dr Tim's and than a week later added friends water change. The water was only a half gallon. Some reefers went out and bought Fiji Mudd. Not the miricle mud bug Fiji theres a major difference.

I went ahead and ordered a medium size bottle of the microbacter7, worst case it’s not needed and it can seed another tank. I also ordered an auto top off I’m bringing in the new year right lol spending money on the water. I’m still learning how to do this. From what I gather I dose for nitrate then phos because the phos won’t hold without it then after those show improvement add the bacteria. I hope I got that right No one is specific as to how they dose so I’m taking a wild guess

Also I need to continue with nitrate simultaneously with the phos because the phos will bring nitrate down

Not necessary. My nitrates where high but I had zero phosphate. Last I checked I had .1 phospahte a and 40 ppm nitrates. I've always had high nitrates. IIwas using nitrate removers as well. I never bottomed them out. I figured it out before I did. Lucky on my part. Heavy gfo use bottomed phosphate. That's when I ended up with dino.
In your case you bottomed out both. Just add nitrate till you get to 5-10 ppm and phospate till you get to .05-.1 those are good numbers . You may have to dose twice a day. In my case I was dosing 5 mil a day till I got readings.

Thanks again I will update after a few weeks.
Right you will have to dose both. Nitrate and phosphates are building blocks of life. Your tank may consume more of one and less of the other. So just measure as you go.

Hello,

I would definitely raise the phosphates and nitrates that’s a good way to crash your tank. Leave the uv sterilizer on or add another one. Another good thing is to add a sand sifting goby. When I have had small cyano break outs they will make short work of it within about a week or two. M
Running the carbon will help, but test your water a few times weekly. In terms of alage I would add another uv sterilizer and some cuc. The uv have been a life saver in my tank and I love it.’

Sorry I tried to read the whole thread and was having issues. Hope it works out well my friend.

Hello,

Ahh thanks lol I have some experience with cyano, but luckily never Dinos. I may kinda over kill this but I dose on my own so I test daily. Another good way to tell me how your corals respond. For example some people have amazing luck with 20 ppm nitrate which I tried and failed.

I lost some amazing sps colonies and went back to my 2-5 ppm. I haven’t tried the 10 ppm but since my tank is happy not gonna change it. But one thing that raised my nitrates was keeping my skimmer off. However, I did add air stones.

So as of the moment where does your tank sit? I ask this because between page 2 and 3 it won’t let me read them.

Thank you and welcome @Sarah24!, I want to get it stable again before adding another fish even though I only have 2 and understand the more fish the better I just can’t add without having it right. I plan on upgrading the uv I have since I only have a horrible in tank sunsun. It has been in my livingroom it does have a large bay window but the wood blinds block almost all light. It has been in this spot for about 10 years. I open a window when weather is good and top of water has movement as well. Some Dino’s have came back on back glass but the cyano is still flaking away and floating off. I expect the Dino’s to keep building until I start dosing. Thanks I greatly appreciate all the help.

Since y’all have more info on my set up I would like to ask if a 26g sump would be benificial? I think it maybe to small. However I want to wait for stability before change. I’m limited on cabinet space so this is the best I could find. I’m just not sure if only a 26g sump would out preform my current filtration. I know very little about them never had one and never thought I would.

If 26 is all you can do than that's all you can do. Sumps make life easier and more water for stability. Also you can have some really cool sump critters.

You could really make one yourself if you are ambitious enough. That's way out of my area of knowledge.
