Hello my fellow reefers, I want to share with you my experiences building my first reef tank. I did choose a Fluval EVO 13.5 for a few reasons, first one, inexperience in marine aquariums, I’ve always had freshwater tanks since the age of 5, from goldfishes in a fountain at my parents to planted tanks, this been said, Fluval has always come through for me in quality and reliability. Another reason is that I love microworlds, love nano tanks and I’m also tech enthusiast so I really like to merge both things looking for the best results possible for my animals.
I did my research on upgrades for the tank and here’s what I added:
- Sicce 1.0 Return pump
- Fluval nano protein skimmer
- Kraken Reef lid
- InTank second chamber media basket
- Chemi Pure Elite
- Marine Pure gems
- VCA flow randomizer
- Kamoer dosing pump, dosing Tropic Marin All-For-Reef
- Ice Cap ATO
- Aquaillumination Prime 16HD
- Aquaillumination Nero 3 after the Aqamai nano failed
- Cobalt Aquatics heater
- Neptune Systems Apex A3

Here are some pics of the journey.
I’m absolutely in love with my tank and after these past 4 months I believe that if I begin a larger tank, it won’t be larger than 30-40 gallons.
I know this is yet another Fluval EVO build but please if you have the time, let me know your thoughts.

cheers!
