Supposedly the pygmy file fish from ORA is reef safe but literally no place seems to have them in stock!

Isn't that always the way! I would wait for that one though. Make sure you sign up for LiveAquaria's email alert for when they get them in stock.

Radial Filefish also seem to be a slightly safer bet than matted so that also might be an option. I wonder if ORA stopped breeding them?

I'm not a risk taker, in that fashion. Not in nano tanks. Maybe a large system. Corals will start releasing toxins if too much stress is put on them.

Yeah also a fair point, its a lot of money to mess around with. Might just stick to the original plan of clowns, goby, firefish.

Ok. Since it's in my nature to be impatient, I decided to email ORA about the filefish... lol. You're welcome. This is their response!! :D

Hello,

Thank you for inquiring about ORA aquacultured marine ornamentals. The Pygmy and Radial filefish are both currently in production. We have a decent number of Radial filefish in stock at this time. If you would like to provide us with your location, we can compile a list of ORA dealers in your area.

Best Regards,

So, radials are available. Where? Not sure. Doesn't seem like they are online.

So they are breeding them, that at least is good!

I got a pair from live aquaria last week, so far no problems

I retract that statement. It does look like a radial. Where they in divers den or regular listings?.

Yeah I found it. Ironically they put radials on reef caution also. Guess i'll wait for the pygmys.

They put all filefish on "reef caution," however ORA states that they believe the radial and the Pygmy to be reef safe. Live Aquaria likely puts the "reef caution" label for legal reasons etc.

Well I couldn't resist, this guy was in the $5 bin at the LFS and I figured why not. Its pretty good for a $5 acan! Little early to add coral normally but everything has been stable for a few weeks. This was a no name acan so unless someone can ID it im thinking about calling it "Frozen Oranges".
Pictures dont do it much good ans the orange is actually much brighter than it looks in these.

As far as the color goes, it may change. I bought one that was red and now has turned green and orange with a hot pink center. Could take months for the colors to come out.
