Hey guys,

Did a water change a day ago(not sold on this being an issue yet) and noticed my foxface isn't doing too well, she is staying closer to the top and seems to have a scar closer to the tail, with some wite flakes around it. I am not sure what this is exactly, and what I should do. Can anyone provide advice?

How long have you had this fish?
Is it still eating?

It looks like it might have gotten spooked during the water change and injured itself.

Could be an infection stemming from an injury. Do you happen to have a hospital tank? You could treat with a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic like neomycin.

Thank you for your info, I do have a small 5 gal tank lying around, maybe I can put my aquarium water inside and my foxface + put medications into the water

That's a pretty small tank. It will need an active biofilter, like some media from your existing tank. You might want to wait a day or so to see if the fish doesn't get better on its own.....

Got it thank you, I put some medicine on my foxface but after a day a scar increased in size, I don’t know if I am doing something wrong, I increased water temp by 1.5 degrees Celsius or so.

Salt, your Foxface needs to be treated with an Antibiotic as Jay indicated. What did you use and what can you get in Canada. Meds are tough to get there but any gram negative antibiotic will work. Increasing your Temp will probably not help and may accelerate the infection.

Got it lowered temp, some guys at my fish store gave me some Metroplex and told me to put it on the wound of my fish since I do not have a hospital tank

All you really need is a 18 Gallon Plastic Tote (I've used them) an airstone, and small $15 heater. Put about 6 inches of SW in it and then Medicate.

I can try to set it up tommorow, I bought some kanaplex off amazon, shoule I use it or get something else?
Thank you for your help, everyone. Unfortunately, after 5 days of catching the cut, my foxface passed away. She lived for around 5 years with me; however, I was not prepared enough to combat the infection in time. It is part of the hobby, I guess; however, it's really not fun when fish die.
