Yes but if you use the first chamber as a refugium you can’t use those open pipes/socks. Which as of right now is my
why not? if you are using a direct siphon it should be pretty quiet even, with the slots, as long as the slots are under the water line. I just built a sump and now thinking about changing it to run the fuge first and am wondering why we haven't been doing it this way all along. id rather have my cheato get first crack at the po4, and pods get the left over food. the skimmer is going to suck out some micro fauna no matter where its at so...

Could you measure what the dimensions of the return section are? Part of me thinks that it’s very small and will severely limit the pump options and constantly be running the ATO.

Return area 10.5" x. 6.5". I'm gonna stick either a Neptune 2.0 or a Various 6 in there.

Both the return and the area before it with the biofiltration (removed for picture) in it would hold the required water volume you're talking about.

What’s the size of the section the pump physically sits in itself?

Yes went to premium but had lots of conversations with Steve at Bashsea. I’m planning on splitting my main drain to go into two of the drains on the sump and haven’t decided on the emergency drain yet.

Yeah, I had a good conversation with him earlier in the week too. Good guy!
Why have them drains split? They're 1.5" drains. And you should always have an emergency drain. What type of tank and plumbing do you have?

I will have an emergency drain just not sure where I am plumbing it to. My main drain will come down as one pipe and tee off into two where it enters the sump. I’m doing this because I’ll be using the slotted pipes and Steve suggested I try that since I was worried about the flow being impeded by the slotted pipes vs open bottom drains. If anything it will help flow and maybe add some extra silence to the main drain.
My tank is a SCA 120 herbie setup.

Ok, that makes perfect sense. I think I have the same rank. 2 drains, 2 returns. I may do the same idea. 2 main drains and I'll us third for the emergency. Here is my idea now...
