My new mandarin goes to the water surface in the evenings!!

Spawning events happen in the evening for these guys. Both males and females will swim higher than normal looking for a mate. Males will flash their fins to attract a female and females look for the biggest strongest male on the reef. This just sounds like she is in search of a mate.

Keep tabs on her if you don’t have a lid. My mandarin jumped out twice. Sadly I wasn’t home the second time.

My female was doing this today and I was freaking out I'm glad I found this thread. She is really skinny from the LFS but I got her on frozen with her pods like my other one so she's on the mend now. I'm glad other people have seen this behavior as well so I feel some relief.

This is a huge help. Mine started doing the same thing last night when the lights went out and woke up to it still there this morning. Seems to be normal judging by things on here.

I have a ton of pods at night near the water line. Is it eating pods off of the glass?
