Wanted to share my orange spot filefish. Got him 3 months ago when he was as thin as paper, and managed to bring him back. Here is a picture of when I first got him, horrible quality but you can clearly see he his bones
Luckily for me he was picking at live brine. He would eat like 5 live brine in one feeding. Barely anything. Slowly he started eating a few more, then I started mixing in the frozen brine, and now he eats like a pig. Took about a month for him to consistantly eat more than like 10 pieces of brine shrimp in a feeding. At the beginning I would just turn off the pumps for the whole day and let him find live brine and also use less energy finding the current. Seriously think this fish had about a week left to live, he was paper thin
This is him yesterday, nice and fat
I have been feeding him spiraluna brine soaked in selcon. Trying to transition him onto other foods but he straight up ignores anything that isnt brine shrimp as of right now. Hopefully this one lasts longer than my other ones, I always would run into unforseeable issues with these guys in the past. One just straight up refused food after eating like a pig for months, another got an internal infection and got a massive sore on its side. I think the key might be diet, before I only fed brine and mysis, going to try and mix it up because I know these guys eat coral polyps/slime/not brine shrimp in the wild.
