It’s been a while so I thought I’d try post a few update snaps! Things are going well but I sure wish I could take better pics! Names depend entirely on my utterly fallible memory.

So I got this a few months back to try it out. Love it. It’s worked great since the moment I turned it on. Bonus points for admiring my new water tank for water change water!

Funny story. I’ve used the same alk monitor for years. I’ve always known they’re not very accurate but done right, mine is remarkably precise. So I sort of just didn’t worry about it because on a relative basis, it all seemed fine. I have some standards I’ve had for a year but never used. Happened to use them two weeks ago and my meter appears to measure about 11% low. Well, if you’re aiming for 140 ppm, 11% means you’re actually at about 125 ppm. Trying to keep alk stable at a level that lie is a huge pain.

On another note, I’ve had a hard time keeping all stable for years. A few weeks back, my dosing pump timer, due to user error, stuck open to the tune of about 3 days worth of dosing. My alk spiked to 216 (194 ppm if you subtract 11%). Growth went nuts. I’m now keeping things at 160ish and everything loves me!

I think the Hanna Checker is great and very reliable, but for God’s sake, calibrate!

Looks great. Consistency is king in my book, sometimes despite the "real" numbers.

It’s getting close to the end of the year. I thought I’d see how I’ve done in the reef. Here are a few pics comparing shots of corals from around this time a year ago with current pics.

Here’s an Aussie stag:

A few more. I actually didn't think I had all that much growth until I started doing this.
