Going to setup two tanks for QT. I need to start adding fish to my 70 gallon tank. I currently only have one fish, Hoevens’ Wrasse. In the future I plan to add 150 gallon fish tank to the room. You can click on my build thread to see the progress. There is a ton of great information on this site. Wondering if I'm missing anything or should change things around?

I’m using @HotRocks thread as my base. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/my-current-qt-process.483371/ at the bottom of his post are other articles.

(2) 20-Gallon tanks
Each tank will have
  • Aqua Clear - Fish Tank Filter
  • 75W EHEIM Jager heater
  • Seachem Ammonia Alert
  • Digital Temp
  • Power head
  • NICREW ClassicLED Aquarium Light
  • BN-LINK BND-60/U47 Indoor Mini 24-Hour Mechanical Outlet Timer
  • Fish net
  • PVC hiding spots

  • API General Cure
  • Copper Power
  • Garlic Guard
  • Methalyne Blue

Placed the tanks in separate areas. Everything is 10 feet away from each other.

Here is the game plan.
Tank 1

  • Put 10 gallons of new saltwater into tank.
    • Will lower salinity and try and match where the fish is coming from.
  • Pull Aqua Clear filter from sump on display tank (2 months in sump).
  • Make sure temp is same as display tank.
  • Setup light timer to match display tank.
  • Turn on powerhead and point up.
  • Bring Copper to 1.5 ppm (Copper Power).
Fish arrival.
  • Try and buy health fish
  • Verify Salinity
  • Float fish for 30-45 mins.
  • Release into QT Tank
  • Start to raise salinity to match display tank.
  • Raise Copper ppm to 2 over the next 2-3 days.
    • Half daily dose in AM
    • Half daily dose in PM
  • Dose MetroPlex
    • Every other day for 10 days
  • Prep Food (3 days’ worth) Feed while in tank 1.
    • 1 tablespoon of food
    • Add 1 scoop of API General Cure
    • Add 1 scoop of Focus
    • Add Selcon +
    • Add Garlic Guard
  • Test Copper daily
  • Top off tank daily

  • Watch fish for next 14 days.
Tank 2
  • Label all equipment with a T2 (Tank 2)
  • Put 10 gallon of display tank water into tank.
  • Put 10 gallons of new saltwater into tank.
    • Make sure salinity matches Tank 1.
  • Pull Aqua Clear filter from sump on display tank (2 months in sump).
  • Make sure temp is same as Tank 1.
  • Setup light timer to match Tank 1.
  • Prep Food (3 days’ worth) Feed for first three days
    • Observe to make sure no signs of intestinal parasites/worms
      • If signs continue food until signs are gone
  • Transfer fish
  • Two rounds of API General Cure 6 days apart

Currently in a holding pattern. Got Tank 1 setup completely. Got copper in and then the "Stay at home" was issued. I haven't been able to get out and get fish. I have been making sure the water has been topped off.

One of my questions is will the bacteria on the sponge still be good? It has been about a month of the tank running with no fish. Unless someone says differently I'm going to continue to top off tank and try a fish in it once I can get out.

Plan to get Tank 2 built this coming week.

First round of fish are out. Lawnmower Blenny and Flame Fin Tang. They were in QT a little longer than planned due to me trying to get everything lined up. I track it in excel.

They are happy in the display tank. Even in the large tank the Tang will hang/protect the Blenny. They truly bonded in QT. Not the best pics.
