Hi all,
My wife has recently run into a mysterious issue with her 1 Gallon Small in One tank, which has otherwise been an absolute rock solid tank for the 1+ years it has been running.
Typically, her tank is booming and full of color with tons of zoas, but as of last Thursday, a large amount of her Zoas refuse to open fully. What makes this mysterious to me is that some Zoas are opening as normal, and other, more sensitive corals are opening just fine, as happy as ever, AND all the livestock is fine.
In the early days of her tank, the sexy shrimp were typically the first indicators something was wrong. However, everything is fine and normal with them, the two fish are acting fine, the clam is opening as big as always.
I noticed some Zoas were closed up last Thursday and decided that come Friday it would be good to do a water change. I typically do a 80-95% water change on the tank. The corals love it and always boom shortly after the change, but when I saw the Zoas not opening up still after a whole day, I thought that was really odd.
I've tried to pinpoint the changes made recently and this is where I'm looking for help
- I used some glue to put on a small rock with daisy polpys on the backwall
- I put in a PNW custom frag holder, and used some light glue on it to repair a crack in the plastic.
- I removed the two RFAs she had in her tank that were growing too large.
Now, I've used glue on the backwall to glue down her GSP and other corals in the past and there's never been any issues what so ever in terms of chemical disturbances.
That leaves me with the RFAs. The timing is strange. I removed them 2 Sundays ago, and then that same week was when I noticed the issues and did my first water change.
I've since removed the PNW custom frag holder in case that was somehow leeching something and did another ~95% water change as well as added some carbon but still seeing no changes in coral behavior even after a few days.
I'm a bit at a loss about what to try next or what could be causing such issues. I was going to place the rock(all corals are attached to her singular rock) into the main 60g tank and see how everything reacts, but she has a super happy Trachy and Trachys simply don't like the big tank at all so I don't want to jeopardize anything in her tank.
Any help would be appreciated!! I've attached some photos of before the issue arose, and then some photos from today - it's self explanatory which are which!
