Yes folks, it’s a killifish for sure. I’m not quite sure which type yet. While I was at Long Island Aquarium, I saw a few types. Anyways, here is the fish a few months later. It still lives in my observational quarantine tank. I tried moving it to my larger AIO frag tank, but he kept making his way into the filter section.

Wow! That’s the best guess I’ve seen to date! I believe we may have a winner. That also explains why he hadn’t grown much in the last few months. The max size is listed as only 62mm, 2.44”. Thanks @Pbh-reef!

You’re very welcome!

I trained a regal angelfish to eat in this tank with the rainwater killifish, and now I have a copperband in training too. The killifish is getting more than his share of food!

A very cool way to let him stay and benefit your other fish.

this is why i love marine stuff, anything could happen and you always learn something new; i always thought there were only freshwater kilifish.

So long hitchhiker fishy. I don’t know how long they normally live, but I found his eyes damaged and he passed away a day later. My son was quite sad about “surprising fish” dying. Also extra horrible for him because snails and hermits were munching away on the body.
