Yes, don't waste anytime making those screens. I'm speaking from experience, if there is ANY way they can jump out, they will.
1/4 inch clear mesh is by far, the best solution to this problem.

This is exactly what im doing. I have 2 large openings and am covering them both with the 1/4" clear mesh

1/4 inch clear mesh is by far, the best solution to this problem.

Is there anything to hold those in place? It appears they're sitting ontop of your acrylic bracing, correct? Meaning if a fish torpedos out of the water into them, they'll move. Just something to consider.

I had my 4" hali chrysus wrasse jumped out of the tank through a 1 and a half inch gap between my screen lid and overflow box. Luckily I was standing right by the tank, and just dropped him back in.

Nice fish man!
