Nano reef tank parameters question

I have a rock flower nem in my aquarium that unfortunately my lemon peel angelfish and peppermint shrimp like the taste of despite the fact they gets lots of food.
I've placed the nem in a mushroom cage. Its protected but I miss seeing it. I tested the parameters of my nano aquarium and the ammonia is. 50 , the nitrites are .50 and nitrites are 5.0. I'm not going to add the nem to the aquarium until I get the ammonia under control. What is the ideal levels for nitrites and nitrates?

You will get many answers but BRS has a pretty decent chart.

What are you testing with api? Api test kits are known for not being accurate. Grab Salifert, RedSea or Hanna's. They will give you more accurate numbers. Regardding your parameters, Ammonia should be zero, nitrites should be zero and nitrates can be anywhere. Some people like nitrates low while others like them high, anything above zero is what I generally say

Why are you showing ammonia and nitrite? How old is this tank, and was it nitrogen cycled?

The aquarium has been running around a month, but the heater broke during that time. I added bacteria to the aquarium this morning and I will test again tomorrow.

But what did you do to cycle it, and when did you add the fish?

You have an Anglefish in a nano tank?

And your tank is too new for a 'nem; I would try to return the 'nem to the store.

I'm not trying to sound harsh, but there's a lot of red flags here

No fish. I've added bacteria and threw some frozen food in for ammonia.

It sounds like your tank was not fully cycled before adding livestock. You need to add A LOT of food if that's what you're using as an ammonia source. The ammonia should reach about 2.0 ppm and then come down to zero, and then you can start to add livestock. You should not have so much ammonia and nitrite if your tank was cycled fully.

My concern is that you're proceeding too quickly, which is never good in this hobby.

If you're seeing ammonia at 0.50 ppm or higher, that's about the time to take action. You can bring it down with a large water change, premix and heat the water to match the salinity and temperature of your tank, and you can safely change out a large percentage of the water. You could also try adding specifically some Fritz TurboStart, this product works more quickly that other bacteria products to help establish a biofilter.

My nano is not cycled. My display tank has been up and running since May. The water I used for my nano aquarium is from my aquarium that's been running since May. It's a 45 gallon aquarium.
