I have been thinking of getting a naso tang for my reef tank. I have a 180 gallon do you guys think thats enough? I know LA says min 180 and I usually go by what they recommend but little on the fence with 180 being the minimum

Ya but id rather not have to get rid of it. If it will eventually out grow the 180 then ill just pass on it.
yeah they grow over a foot. Would outgrow your tank

I would not. To appreciate that fish you need a long tank, they can swim across the tank with one fin flex. They look best as well when they grow larger and they start developing the streamers, at which point you would have to make the painful decision of removing it.

so I don't have to start another thread, can tangs fins grow at different speeds? my gem tang on the back of his dorsal fins look like they are getting nipped. But ive never actually seen any fish or have fish that actually go after him. He eats nori at least three times a week and then I feed frozen daily.

I've never heard of that but it doesn't sound impossible to me, just unlikely. Could he have been nipped at night time by a crab or any other type of cuc? Have the fins gotten worse over time or did it happen and they have just remained the same?

He's definitely being nipped at night. He now has a tiny chunk out of his tail. Wonder who or what's doing it. It's just him too
