Hi all...anyone have issues with 3-4" Naso tangs ordered online recently? each one has come in with pinched belly. I've tried 3 vendors...all the same...and unfortunately the fish have all lasted less than a week.

Are these through quarantined vendors or just regular purchases? I’m asking because I tried to get a hippo tang through a specific vendor and twice I got hippo tangs that came in emaciated and died within a couple of days. The vendor claims that tangs stop feeding during copper treatment and they don’t have the space to get them healthy before shipping them.

If that’s not the case, maybe you are better off buying from a LFS so you see it before purchasing.

not quarantined vendors...which is a valid point. My yellow and Blue hippo came from Reef Pro(not 100% quarantined but more conditioned)...super healthy and ate day one.

I don’t think it’s anything new. Now that Hawaii is closed to collecting, all go through a very long supply where they are not fed.

Blond nasos however have been having severe mortality problems from unknown reasons.

Do you have any good local stores? My LFS will special order fish if they are available. Ordering online is a last resort for me because I like to see the fish in person if at all possible.
I get its not an option for everyone.
Hopefully you can have success with one. Mine is my oldest and one of my favorite fish at 8+ years in my care.

I would want to see it before I purchase one. You would be better off buying from your LFS, if you have a good one near you.

beautiful specimen...I sold everything, including a naso tang that I had for 6 years when I moved from SoCal to Florida...it's become too depressing to get this fish online...will be checking with LFSs

I like purchasing fish from other reefers who need to rehome them since these guys grow fast! I’m super spoiled in SoCal with so many LFS and reefers around me. Naso tangs are beautiful and have a great personality. I have a pair (male blond, female brown) and they get along very well. So reefers first then LFS. I’ve never purchased any fish online.

I would still QT if possible. Bought a Powder Brown from a QTing vendor. What a mistake to introduce him to my tank that just got over a velvet outbreak just three months before. Now I’m back at running fallow for a few good months.

Sad part is there are no vendors that run a full 30day QT for copper and two weeks of prazi. And while doing my own QT with two purple and a yellow tang. I noticed on one purple that ich popped up about two weeks and a half into the 30 day Copper QT.

If you have the right setup or can get the right setup QT everything on your own. Two weeks in my findings is not enough at times sadly.
